무어의 법칙을 따라 10년 동안 100배 밀도 증가해온 DRAM은 최근 10년동안 2배밖에 증가하지 못했는데요. 1T1C 구조에서 특히 캐패시터의 경우 길죽한 모양으로 미세화가 더욱 어려운 지경입니다. 더군다나 DRAM 특성 상 30~40ms 마다 끊임없이 refresh를 해야 데이터가 지속 저장되기 때문에 이를 잘 Control하기 위해 가장 널리 사용되는 Sense Amplifier의 미세화도 어려운 상황인데요.
